IMG Garnet is a non - metallic naturally obtainable mineral abrasive mined from Almandine mineral deposit sources from the mines of Indian river and coastal bed. The Almandine Garnet is the heaviest and hardest of the all the garnet types in its own group, which makes it an ideal abrasive grain for various industrial applications. IMG Garnet is a genuine virgin almandine garnet belonging to the gem family.
10-20, 20-40 & 30-60 are the grades used for sandblasting, the grades are selected based on surface to be blasted and the surface cleanliness requirement. To remove tough corrosion and thicker paints coarser Grades are used. In order to achieve surface profile of more than 100 micron, Garnet Mesh 10-20 are used and this is largely used by shipbuilding industries. To achieve more than 75 micron surface profile garnet 20-40 is used. Basically this is used in Oil & Gas Maintenance jobs and structural fabrication. Thirdly the most common grade is 30-60 which is used in Oil & Gas offshore platforms maintenance, construction of new platforms, Pressure Vessels fabrication, Structural works, spot blasting etc
Mesh 80 and Mesh 120 are the grades used for water jet cutting. Mesh 80 is very widely used in steel plates, marbles and this can cut harder objects more faster Mesh 120 is used for light objects like Glass Aluminium , Rubber etc.
Mesh 160 and Mesh 200 are special grades of garnet used mostly in the precision products manufacturing industry. Highly used in electronic manufacturing, including grinding and finishing of television panels , Mobile panels, optical components, Semi- conductor etc.
Coarser grades – Mesh 10-20 & 12-24 are widely used for water filtration to improve the quality of water by absorbing the heavy content in the water and ensure clean water. Apart from this it is also used as blasting medium in shipbuilding industries and oil & gas to remove tough corrosion or highly thick layer of paints in the surfaces and ensure clean surface.
Medium Grades: 20-40 & 30-60 are mainly used in sand blasting application in Oil & Gas Industries, Ship building, Fabrication yards, powerplant etc, to achieve the clear steel surface before painting. These grades are used according to the surface standard requirement, to achieve SA 3 garnet, 20-40 will be used and to achieve SA 2.5, 30-60 will be used. However most of the industries require SA 2.5 and 30-60 is major grade used in sand blasting application while 20-40 are lower in use compared to 30-60.
Fine Grades: Mesh 80 & 120 are used for waterjet cutting application and Mesh 80 is the common grade used for waterjet cutting. Waterjet cutting can cut any object like steel, Aluminium, Marble, Granite, Glass, Rubber, Plastic, etc, and this method can also cut very thin objects from 0.1 mm thickness to 125mm thickness. Since this is the only mode of cold cutting it will not affect the surface and the properties remain unchanged in the cut edges. Mesh 120 are used to cut thinner and softer objects. This is also used for engraving letters and designs in marble and glasses which gives a matt texture finishing.
